"Introduction to Amateur Radio Astronomy"

Tom Hagen of the Oakland Astronomy Club will present an interesting talk on amateur radio astronomy.
He will be talking about amateur radio astronomy and the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA).  Tom will introduce the subject with a brief rundown on the history of radio astronomy and then go into several popular projects that amateurs may want to do in the field of amateur radio astronomy and talk a little bit about SARA and why you should join if you're interested in pursuing amateur radio astronomy.
Don't forget to bring your warm clothes, as we hopefully will be observing after Tom's presentation.

"Ford Club Annual Swap Meet"

The Ford Amateur Astronomy Club's annual swap meet will again be held at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livonia, Michigan.  There will be presentations and workshops throughout the day. There will be opportunities to buy and/or sell your astronomy equipment. Admission is $5.00 at the door. The address is 30650 Six Mile, Livonia, Mi. 48152.

"Archeoastronomy in the Ancient British Isles" & "Measuring the Moon Without Electricity"

Bob Berta of the Warren Astronomical Society (plus several other Detroit area clubs) will give the British Isles talk while Jeff MacLeod of the Warran Astronomical Society will give an interesting talk on the Moon - including some interesting "in-talk activities". If clear, we plan on observing afterwards, so bring appropriate warm clothing.

"Star Party at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch in Metamora, Michigan"

Seven Ponds Astronomy Club will again be participating in the D-Bar-A Scout Ranch star party near Metamora, Mi. There will be solar observing in the late afternoon, then various presentations in the main lodge, and then to cap off the days activities, there will be telescope observing in the evening.  As of this listing, plans are still being formulated as far as activities, presentation titles, etc. Keep checking this website as details become known.


"Eco Days at Seven Ponds Nature Center
Saturday, May 14, 2016 Noon-2:00PM

Saturday, from noon until 2:00pm, the astronomy club will be assisting Seven Ponds Nature Center in their "Eco Days" activities. The club will provide telescopes for solar observing, display tables, and possible indoor presentations. Saturday is "National Astronomy Day", which is held annually to promote amateur astronomy for the public. Come on out to the nature center for an enjoyable 2-day event that provides many fun activities. The Eco Days event at the nature center runs from 10:00am to 5:00pm both days, but the club will only be assisting on Saturday. Activities besides the astronomy club include the camera club, beekeeper's club, building bird houses, crafts, chalk murals on sidewalks, bake sale, and other fun things for the family.
